There were several important changes to federal tax law in 2008. The Emergency Economic Stabilization Act extended a number of popular tax breaks including but not limited to: a business tax credit for research and development, above-the-line deductions for higher education tuition and fees, a variety of energy tax credits and additional standard deduction for property taxes paid by those who don’t itemize. The IRS also made several announcements including increases in standard deductions, cost-of-living adjustments on the benefits and contributions under qualified retirement plans for 2009 and more.
In an effort to bolster the economy, further important tax law changes are likely this year. If you didn’t receive the news about the 2008 tax law changes in your inbox as they happened, e-mail marketing@glcpa.com with the subject: Send me E-mail Alerts!
